Consultation for Disorder Assessment for Children

Let’s Set Your Child Up for Success

Do you suspect your child may have a psychological disorder or chronic medical condition? You are not alone.

The range of disorders and chronic conditions can feel daunting as a family begins to identify and seek a diagnosis for their child’s concerning health issues. As a Primary Care office, Family Medical Center is the place where your child (and the whole family) comes for all your routine care so it is the best place to begin evaluating deeper medical problems.

Dr. Barnett and Nurse Practitioner KC Bellin have experience working with families to find solutions for disorders and chronic conditions. Our providers treat and sometimes refer patients to the appropriate specialist as medically indicated.

We begin to identify and refer to the appropriate specialist and we often help implement treatment plans for a range of disorders, including:

FAQS

  • What are the signs that I might need a disorder assessment for my child?

If your child is exhibiting persistent, significant difficulties in behavior, mood, learning, or social interactions that are abnormal for their age and developmental level, it may be a sign that a disorder assessment is needed.

Additionally, if these challenges are noticeably impacting their daily lives, such as in school performance or relationships with family and peers, it's advisable to seek a disorder assessment.

  • What types of disorders do you assess and consult on for children?

Our providers assess children for disorders such as autism spectrum, anxiety and depression, learning disabilities, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or delayed development among other issues.

  • Why should I see my primary care practitioner first when noticing signs of a disorder?

Ideally, a relationship with a primary care doctor is established over time and abnormal changes in a child can be noted and documented incrementally. At Family Medical Center, we know our patients personally.

If diagnosed in the early stages or with mild presentations, our providers will treat the patient and follow up for signs of improvement.

If a specialist is needed for more serious disorders, our office can refer the child to a trusted network of medical professionals and help navigate the medical system. Dr. Barnett and the Family Medical Center staff will support you in helping your child live their best life.
